Where I’d land
Full-size terrain for Richard
Pick La Rosière (budget, nicest accommodation) or Méribel (if childcare certainty outweighs cost).Reduced terrain for Richard
La Clusaz becomes the contender: 1h15 transfer for two small boys, cheaper, plus Balme’s off-piste for Richard. See the Compare tab.Ski area and piste make-up

Easy afternoons with Otis
La Rosière
Eucherts beginner area and magic carpet 205 m from Cimes Blanches; ESF has two secure beginner areas. Under-5s ski free. 👍 strongLa Plagne
Blues between Belle Plagne and Plagne Centre are described as some of the widest and most forgiving in the Alps. 👍 strongMéribel
Green run (Perdrix) 50 m from some Mottaret buildings; big blue network. Snow gardens at the ski schools. 👍 goodLa Clusaz
~40% of runs beginner-graded; 31 blues in the Aravis area; compact village. 👍 goodLes Gets
Gentle family terrain you already know. knownWhat if Richard needs less terrain?
What improves
- La Clusaz and Les Gets enter the running; both are ~1h15 from Geneva
- Shorter transfer is a big win for Eric and Otis on travel day
- La Clusaz day passes were reported €5–8 cheaper than Morzine
- La Clusaz: Balme bowls give Richard serious off-piste
What you give up
- Lower villages: January snow is less guaranteed than at 1,750–2,050 m
- Less purpose-built ski-in/ski-out; more walking or shuttles
- La Clusaz Otis-age lessons still need confirming (the crèche is confirmed, but book now)
- La Clusaz is a new valley for you, but a similar scale to Les Gets
Verdict: If you accept ~125–210 km for Richard, La Clusaz beats everything on travel day and price. La Rosière still wins on accommodation, sun and snow height. If you choose La Clusaz, register for its crèche now.
